Biodegradable vs Compostable

Whats the difference?

If an item is ‘Biodegradable,’ it will
biodegrade, but the length of time it will take for this item to fully break down is not specified – it could take 1000 years for something that is ‘Biodegradable’ to fully decompose.

If an item is ‘Certified Compostable’, it means that this item will biodegrade into nutrient-rich soil within a 90 day timeline. It will certifiably break down into soil within 6 weeks when commercially composted.

For food service, compostable packaging really is best. It does not matter if the packaging is covered with ketchup or even has half a sandwich left in it – it can all go in one bin. Although the products are made of mixed materials, they are all completely compostable, eaning they all share the same recycling stream.

Be Like Nana!

Items can go in the ‘Food Waste Bin’, when commercially composted they break down into nutrient rich soil in under 90 days. This soil is then used as compost in Ireland, turning the waste into a resource.

Eco Materials

Paper

All of our recycled paper products, such as napkins and paper carrier bags are manufactured in Ireland and the UK out of 100% recycled paper pulp.

Eco Materials

Recycled Board

Our kraft board cups are produced from sustainably sourced board with high recycled content and printed with non-toxic, vegetable inks.

Eco Materials

Bagasse

Bagasse is the dry fibrous residue left after sugar can fibre has been pressed for juice. It is ideal for producing tableware due to its inherent strength and can be considered a tree-free paper. Being a waste material to begin with, it is an excellent low-impact option.

Eco Materials

PLA

Made from cornstarch, PLA reduces carbon impact by 79%, and is an ideal replacement for oil-based plastic in many applications. These can include films, thermoformed packaging such as cups and deli pots, as awell as injection-molded products.

Eco Materials

CPLA

A proprietary combination of PLA, chalk and other biodegradable additives. CPLA is suitable for high-heat applications such as making cutlery and hot cup lids, as it can take temperature of up to 95° without impacting shape.

Eco Materials

rPLA

Recycled PLA is derived from post-consumer waste and is a compostable bioplastic made from renewable sources like cornstarch or sugarcane. Recycling PLA products cuts down virgin PLA production, which lowers fossil fuel use. The recycling process  is less energy-intensive than initial production, leading to lower energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Eco Materials

Natureflex

Natureflex is a clear film made form wood pulp. The cellulose fibre in the wood pulp are regenerated into a certified industrial compostable film. It is perfect for visual presentation for hot and cold food.
